the daughter of Herodias, whose dancing so pleased Herod that he granted her anything she would ask. Instructed by her mother, she demanded the head of John the Baptist, which she then presented to Herodias on a platter (in the Bible, Matthew 14:3-11). Her name is not given in the Bible.
